St James' Community Hall
The Church Rooms
Chipping Campden
A community resource ideal for meetings, social gatherings and events
ABOUT
Welcome to the website of St James’ Community Hall in Chipping Campden, affectionately known in the town and surrounding area as the Church Rooms. Here you will find out all you need to know about the hall, including the current users, special events, how to hire it and the facilities it offers. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at admin@stjameschurchcampden.co.uk.
First, a little about the history of the building. It was built in 1838 as a school for the poor boys of the parish and it continued as such for about 100 years. It then became a hall used by St James’ Church. Recently it became an independent charity with trustees and a managing committee. The building is Grade II listed.
CURREN EVENTS
Community Lunches
From September to July, a Community Lunch is held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month from 12.30 to 2.30pm. There is a choice of two homemade soups with bread, followed by a selection of homemade puddings, and finally tea or coffee. There is no charge for these lunches, although donations are welcomed to cover costs. The lunches are suspended over the Lent period, roughly mid-February to late March/early April depending on when Easter falls, and replaced by weekly Lent lunches (see below). The dates until the end of 2024 are 8th and 22nd October, 12th and 26th November and 10th December. There will also be a special Christmas lunch on 17th December. More details to follow.
FUTURE EVENTS 2025
Community Lunches
During Lent, the Community lunches are replaced by weekly Lent lunches organised by, or on behalf of, various local and national charities to raise much-needed funds for their activities. The menu for these is homemade soup with bread, a cheeseboard and biscuits, and tea or coffee with sweet biscuits. There is no set charge for these lunches, but the charities need donations to enable them to continue their amazing work. In 2025, the lunches will run from 11th March to 15th April inclusive. There will be a Pancake Party on Shrove Tuesday, 4th March. More details to follow.
